NEW INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
SHANGHAI, CHINA
The New International Medical Center began construction in the summer of 2014. This medical campus consists of a 947,805 square foot central facility with five hospitals/specialty clinics surrounding it. In the summer of 2015, Xian Dai was asked to develop conceptual design for the sky-bridges that would connect the five buildings to the central facility.
Xian Dai’s Business Division 2 was broken up into 3 design teams; each team was to develop a different scheme. My team was assigned a scheme with the structure exposed on the exterior. We were also tasked with designing the emergency stair wells to fit within the site plan.

& Business Division 2 staff
We matched the structure of the sky-bridges to some of the central facility’s thematized geometries.
SKY-BRIDGE ELEVATION
SKY-BRIDGE PLAN
The interior face of each structural element was proposed as a solid color. Each sky-bridge should have its own color, to enhance the user's way-finding. The use of color also creates a calm environment for the patients and their visitors.
The stairwells are designed to match the structure of the sky-bridges.
STAIRWELL
The concept is enhanced through colored LED lights that line the window mullions. It makes for a beautiful feature in
the landscape, and enhances the way-finding in an emergency.
