The Veterans Memorial Building and YMCA are being built in phases. Phase 1 of the project started construction in July 2021.
Due to the community's concern around the potential increase in traffic, a Traffic Calming scope of work became a high priority.

The building site is located on the north side of Red Morton Park. The park has sports fields, walking paths, a community center and a children's playground. The surrounding streets contain single family residences.

PROPOSED SITE
The goal is to maximize park space, while meeting the parking needs of the new programs. To do this the green space along Madison will be preserved. The parking lots are located on the perimeter of the site and a new pedestrian promenade will take the place of Nevada St.

My Role, the Building:
Prepared diagrams for community workshops and led design charattes, presented concepts and answered questions at each workshop.
Researched and specified building materials to meet the building code and budget requirements.
Selected finishes and documented interior details.
Coordinated the site information with civil and landscape consultants.
Led efforts to ensure the project has a minimal impact on the environment and coordinated information with the LEED Consultant.
My Role, Traffic Calming:
Organized community workshops and mock-up events.
Presented concepts and answered questions at city council meetings and community workshops.
Coordinated information between consultants and the city of Redwood City.
Examined the parking and traffic issues of the neighborhood.
Issued a parking assessment based on previous data to predict the number of parking spaces needed for the new program.
