GRANVILLE DANCE CENTER

VANCOUVER, B.C.

Studio Project - Spring 2014

The creative context of Granville Island makes it the perfect location for a dance center. It is the home to many artisan shops, cafes, theaters and the design school, Emily Carr.

The program of the Granville Dance center benefits both the local people of Vancouver and the tourists. It consists of various dance studios, a dance club, a restaurant, a fitness attire store, a health food cafe, a theater, and extended stay units.

Professor: Stephen Duff

GRANVILLE ISLAND

CONCEPTUAL MASSING

Emphasis of Railspur Alley's angle, a diagonal, pedestrian friendly road on Granville Island.

Hierarchies created through the isolation of the café and a pitched roof form of the theater.

The diagonal bridge is thinned and made more delicate, while thinking about scale.

Ground the massing on the site by centering

the theater.
