INTERSECTION MURAL

Tactical Urbanism Project - Fall 2015 - Spring 2016

This project was initiated during a new undergraduate course at the University of Oregon, title “Real World Eugene”. The class aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in the fields of planning and public policy. Our specific group focused on researching “Tactical Urbanism”, which was introduced as “a variety of short-term projects directly enacted by citizens”, by authors Lydon and Garcia in their book, “Tactical Urbanism: Short-term Action for Long-term Change”. We attended city meetings, and conducted surveys and interviews in order to publish a “Tactical Urbanism – Eugene, Oregon: A guidebook to help neighbors make a change in their community.”

We felt that primary research was an important capstone to our research and guidebook; therefore a few students continued to organize an intersection beatification project after the completion of the course.
